The device has a contact-sensitive sensor arrangement comprising a planar marked element, where a surface of the marked element is provided with a conductive layer. A detection unit detects contacts e.g. bright points (R1, R2) and blue or dark points (B1, B2), of the conductive layer with a contact unit. An evaluation unit evaluates a position of the detected contacts. An association unit associates the position to an action. Time characteristics of the two detected contacts are sequentially utilized one after another for evaluating the position and representable by a movement vector. The contact unit is designed as a finger or an input pen. An independent claim is also included for a method for detecting operation of an operating device.
