818,229. Optical-projection systems. ZEISS IKON A.G. March 27, 1957 [March 31, 1956], No. 10065/57. Class 97(1) A projection system comprises a gas discharge lamp 3 with its axis at right angles to the optical axis, at least on reflector 2 in the form of a surface or revolution and producing a convergent light beam, and a divergent cylindrical lens 7 spaced from a convergent cylindrical lens 8, the cylinder axes of both being perpendicular to both the lens axis and the lamp axis. The cylindrical lenses compensate for the restricted angular distribution of light from the lamp in planes containing the lamp axis. In the form shown an additional reflector 4 produces an inverted image of the lamp co-incident with the lamp. One face of the lens 8 may be made light diffusing to produce a more nearly uniform illumination of the gate. A "honeycomb" condenser, such as described in Specification 741,246, comprising lenticulated plates 5, 6 may be provided. The plates may be formed integrally with the lenses 7, 8. The lenses of the plate 6 have tonic surfaces so that each one images the corresponding element of the plate 5 in the projection aperture in spite of the cylindrical curvature of the lens 8. A field lens may be provided in the vicinity of the projection aperture. |
