The invention relates to a current transformer (1) having a closable housing (2) and an active part (3) which can be installed in the housing (2). The housing (2) has at least one pair of end-face openings (31) which are arranged and formed in opposite end-face walls of the housing (2) in such a way that an electrical primary line of the active part (3) can be routed through the housing (2) parallel to a longitudinal axis of the housing (2) through each pair of end-face openings (31). The active part (3) has at least one current transformer core (7) for each such pair of end-face openings (31), said current transformer core, after installation of the active part (3) into the housing (2), annularly surrounding a portion of a primary line which is routed through the two end-face openings (31), wherein, during assembly of the current transformer, the housing of the current transformer is first fitted in the switchgear assembly and then the active part is installed in the housing of the current transformer.
