<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lead acid battery degradation diagnosis method to diagnose the effect of a liquid reduction in the electrolyte of a lead acid battery in use and the effect of other causes than the liquid reduction to determine whether water supply for the electrolyte is necessary. <P>SOLUTION: In a battery monitoring method, calculation is made from a reduced liquid amount of electrolyte G and an internal resistance R in a control valve type lead acid battery in a non-degraded good order which were previously measured at an ambient temperature T to find correlation between the reduced liquid amount of electrolyte and the internal resistance at the ambient temperature, and letting a measured reduced liquid amount and a measured internal resistance of the control valve type lead acid battery while in use which were measured at the ambient temperature T be Gt and Rt, respectively, calculation is made from the previously calculated relationship between the reduced liquid amount of electrolyte and the internal resistance to find an internal resistance Rot corresponding to a measured reduced liquid amount Gt. Letting a resistance difference between the measured internal resistance Rt and the calculated internal resistance Rot be an internal resistance difference dRt, if a ratio of the internal resistance Rt to the internal resistance difference dRt, SOR, is 0.5 or more, the lead acid battery is determined to have degraded due to other causes than liquid reduction, or if the SOR is less than 0.5, the lead acid battery is determined to have degraded due to a liquid reduction in the electrolyte. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
