The arrangement has a waste-gas heat exchanger including an exhaust gas passage (21) for carrying exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine. A working medium channel carries a working medium (20) e.g. water and/or organic fluid, which is utilized for thermodynamic cyclic process. A compressor i.e. pump (16), is integrated in the heat exchanger for the working medium. The cyclic process is utilized as a Rankine process with the working medium that comprises a liquid aggregation state in the direction of flow before the working medium enters the channel. The pump is selected from rotary piston pump, flow or centrifugal pump and/or displacement pump e.g. gear pump. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a waste-gas heat exchanger arrangement.
