A liquid crystal composition of the present invention is used for an active matrix-driven liquid crystal display element or the like for which high-speed response is required. The liquid crystal composition has negative dielectric anisotropy having a large absolute value, while having low viscosity. The liquid crystal composition is chemically stable with respect to heat, light, water and the like, and is suitable as a practical and highly reliable liquid crystal composition that can be driven at a low voltage. A liquid crystal display element using this liquid crystal composition is suitable for use as a liquid crystal display element of VA type, PSVA type, PSA type or the like. |
