The nacelle (1) has a self-supporting nacelle cover designed as a nacelle cladding and an outer enclosure of the nacelle and bearing a generator (46) of a wind energy plant, which comprises a tower and an aerodynamic rotor. The nacelle cover comprises a rotating part (4), which bears a rotor blade (56) of the aerodynamic rotor and/or a rotor (50) i.e. external rotor, of the generator. A stationary part (2) bears a stator (48) of the generator. The nacelle cover, the rotating part and/or the stationary part are totally or partly made of steel e.g. nodular cast iron or aluminum. The generator is designed as a low-speed generator and/or a multi-pole generator. An independent claim is also included for a wind energy plant constructing method.
