The method involves producing an audio signal (T) having a predetermined audio frequency (f0). The level difference (dP') between the auditory thresholds (Pm,Pgrm) of audio signal is computed such that the parameter values of the frequency compression device are set. The microphone signal of microphone of the hearing device is compressed corresponding to specific frequency by the frequency compression device. An independent claim is included for adaptation device for frequency compression device of hearing device.
