The rack (1) has a fixed device (2) i.e. rail, firmly arranged on a motor vehicle roof. A movable device (3) is movably attached to the fixed device and comprises a carrier unit for fastening of a bicycle (200). The movable device is movable between a transport position and a load position. The movable device is arranged above and partially in a region of the fixed device when seen in a plan view, in the transport position. The movable device is arranged below the fixed device and is partially beside the fixed device when seen in the plan view, in the load position. An independent claim is also included for a method for loading an object on a luggage rack fixed on a motor vehicle.
