The system has an inlet valve (10) and an exhaust valve (20) comprising an exhaust opening, where exhaust opening and inlet valve are arranged in a valve plate (30). The inlet valve comprises ring segment-shaped inlet openings that are arranged in the plate concentric to the exhaust opening. The inlet openings open into an annular groove that is formed in the plate. The groove is covered by a flexible movable valve membrane that is arranged on a side of the plate around the exhaust opening. The groove is firmly connected with the plate in the region of the exhaust opening. An independent claim is also included for a reciprocating piston compressor.
