A gasbag 2 for a pneumatic personal protection device on a motor vehicle exhibits a membrane (13, figure 3) that at least locally encompasses an inner layer (14) and an outer layer (15), wherein the outer layer exhibits a higher tolerance to frictional loads than the inner layer. The airbag may be a pedestrian protection device located in a vehicle bumper, with the outer layer comprising a higher tolerance to friction being intended to contact the ground. In this way the inner layer of the airbag is at least protected until it has served its purpose. The higher frictional tolerance may be provided by a higher wearing resistant fabric layer, or by means of discrete bodies (17, figures 4 to 7) individually secured to the inner layer. The bodies may be scaled or overlapped (figure 5) to take into account the direction of travel. Alternatively the outer layer may be formed by different types of threads in the fabric of the airbag. The outer layer may consist of aramide or PTFE. The airbag may also be located within a vehicle dashboard.
|
