A choke valve 10, to reduce the pressure of the fluid flowing through the valve, having a hollow body with an inlet bore 14, an outlet bore 16 and a main bore 26 which communicates with the outlet and inlet. The valve includes a flow trim 28 in the main bore comprising a stationary tubular cage 32 and an external cylindrical collar 36 which slides along the sidewall of the cage. The cage has at least one pair of diametrically opposed main flow ports 34. The top of the valve body is closed off by a bonnet 40. The flow collar 36 is biased over the flow ports 34 by a stem 60. The external flow collar 36 has a fully closed position where the main flow ports 34 are covered and a fully open position where the flow ports 34 remain partially covered to direct the fluid for angularly away from the outlet bore 16.
