PURPOSE: An auto focus method of a camera module is provided to perform efficient contrast auto focus without optical degradation after auto focus as reducing auto focus time, by obtaining movement distance of a lens with 1/image distance relation. CONSTITUTION: A camera module recognizes contrast of a photographed image (S100). The camera module determines contrast increasing direction with movement direction of a lens (S110). The camera module detects image distance which is distance from a subject (S120). The camera module determines lens step movement amount of auto focus (AF) with the detected image distance (S130). The camera module performs contrast scanning with the determined lens step movement amount (S140).
