851,625. Battery charging systems with variable-speed A.C. generators. LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd., J. June 12, 1959 [July 4, 1958], No. 21436/58. Class 38 (4). An electric current generating and storage system for road vehicles wherein the current required for the engine ignition, lighting and other equipment e is supplied from a storage battery c when a switch d is closed comprises a permanent magnet variable speed alternating current generator a which charges the battery c through a full-wave rectifier b, a diode f of the Zener type being provided whereby when the terminal voltage of the battery c reaches a given value, current is diverted to earth by the diode thus preventing the battery from being overcharged. In other embodiments conduction of the diode energizes a relay whereby the generator output is reduced. |
