Method of producing an extract of a smokeless tobacco product

A method of producing an extract of a smokeless tobacco product comprises the steps of: extracting the smokeless tobacco product in a solvent; filtering the extract to separate the macroscopic particles of the smokeless tobacco product from the liquid extract; and filtering the resultant extract through a sequence of two or more filters of decreasing pore size, wherein at least one filter has a pore size of less than 0.5 microns and wherein the filtration is carried out under a pressure of 3 to 10 bar. Optionally, the method may further comprise a subsequent sterilisation step to sterilise the filtered extract.
