Hydrogenation of phenols with hydroxyl group to cyclic ketones comprises reacting phenols with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst in a solution containing at least 3C-aliphatic and/or cycloaliphatic alcohols, where: a supported palladium containing catalyst is used as the catalyst, which is treated with a neutral or basic salt before the use, and/or the hydrogenation takes place in the presence of a supported palladium containing catalyst and a neutral or basic salt. |
