OPTICAL ROTARY JOINTS

An optical reflector assembly ( 50 ) for enabling communication between a rotor and a stator. The assembly comprises a first member (51) having a concave first reflective surface ( 52 ) where a line taken through the concave surface ( 52 ) is configured as a portion of an ellipse. A second member ( 53 ) is mounted on one side of the first member ( 51 ), a third member ( 56 ) is mounted on the opposite side of the first member ( 51 ) and a fourth member ( 54 ) is mounted on the second member ( 53 ). The fourth member ( 54 ) has a second reflective surface ( 55 ) configured as a portion of a cone. Light incident on the concave reflective surface ( 52 ) is reflected onto the second reflective surface ( 55 ) where it is further reflected towards a receiver ( 58 ) mounted on the third member ( 56 ).
