<p>Metering of a physical characteristic is described, through a metering device 10, in which a stochastic approach is taken. A random signal is generated on the basis of a metering signal, preferably with a view to maximising a statistical distance between the two, such as their K-divergence. The random signal and the metering signal are mixed together, via a signal concealment unit 30, to obscure characteristics of the metering signal which could otherwise divulge private information to third parties. The metering device may further comprise a rechargeable battery with discharge means dependent on the mixed signal. A metering device and a method of metering a physical characteristic are provided.</p> |
