PURPOSE: An optical film having a polarizing plate and a liquid crystal display apparatus are provided to offer a new optical film which has large in-plane retardation Re and a small absolute value of Rth, thickness direction retardation, and which can be used as a phase difference film. CONSTITUTION: An optical film comprises a composition which includes cellulose acylate having an acyl group including an aromatic group and satisfies the following formulae (I) to (III). Formula(I) is 150nm<=Re(550)<=350nm, formula(II) is -50nm<=Rth(550)<=50nm, and formula(III) is 0.07nm<=degree of cross-sectional orientation P2z<=1. Here, Re(550) represents an in-plane retardation at a wavelength of 550nm, and Rth(550) represents a thickness direction retardation at a wavelength of 550nm. |
