The device (15) has an image capturing device (17) comprising two image detectors that capture pictures or picture series of a crop flow (S) at equal distances. The image detectors are arranged on an imaginary circular path at an angle of about 180 degrees in a circumferential direction. The image detectors are respectively arranged perpendicular to a top side and a lower side of a surface of the crop flow emerging from a grain lift head or an ejection manifold of a self-driven agricultural harvesting machine (1). The image detectors are arranged opposite to each other. The image detectors are designed as charge coupled device (CCD) cameras.
