The method involves using an extended device description data file (DDS) as device description data file (DD). A defined device parameter semantics (DPS) is assigned to the device description data file for device parameters (DP) e.g. current. The extended device description data file is evaluated by generator tools (GT). A check is made whether the device parameter semantics is present for the device parameter such that the device parameter semantics is evaluated by the tools. A parameter-semantics-specific software module (SM) is generated according to the device parameter semantics. An independent claim is also included for a device description data file.
