The method involves removing a reference element (12) from a magazine or advertizing element (11) e.g. magazine, catalog or advertizing letter, before dropping the advertizing element into a mail box. The reference element is attached to a surface of the mail box by using an adhesive or magnetic foil in a partially visible manner from outside, where the reference element has the form of a label that is provided with a contact adhesive layer (18). The reference element is hung in a slot of the mail box by a lug after the folding of the reference element along a folding line. An independent claim is also included for a magazine or advertising mail.
