PURPOSE: A light amount adjusting device including a lens operating unit for moving a lens unit along a light axis and an iris recognizing method using the same are provided to accurately adjust the amount of necessary light for a pattern of an iris and a shape of a face of a subject. CONSTITUTION: A light amount adjusting unit includes lens unit(120) delivering a light source of a light source unit(110) to a subject and a lens operating unit moves the lens unit along a light axis. The light source unit is composed of an IR light source and an emission angle of the light source unit is reduced by moving to the subject.
