PURPOSE: A symbol timing synchronization method and a device thereof are provided to improve symbol synchronization performance in a multipath channel or in a channel with a low signal-to-noise ratio. CONSTITUTION: A symbol timing synchronization device receives a reception signal(S810). The symbol timing synchronization device calculates an AC(Auto-Correlation) output value by applying the reception signal to an AC calculation procedure(S820). The symbol timing synchronization device calculates a ZC(Cross-Correlation) output value by applying the reception signal to a ZC calculation procedure(S830). The symbol timing synchronization device calculates a ZC index by using the ZC output value(S840). The symbol timing synchronization device calculates an SC(Symmetric Correlation) output value by applying the reception signal to an SCORR calculation procedure(S850). The symbol timing synchronization device finally calculates symbol timing by using the AC output value, the ZC index, and the SC output value(S860).
