In a position determining system, a mobile telephone UE measures the time of arrival of signals from at least three base stations eNB1, eNB2, eNB3 and determines the differences of their times of arrival (OTDOA / TDOA). These are improved by determining the time at which signals are received from other neighboring, similarly-equipped mobile units UE1, UE2, UE3. Position calculation may take place at a point in the network E-SMLC.
