An apparatus and a method for interleaving a turbo encoder are provided to prevent the reduction of minimum free distance by implementing one at a position corresponding to a period of a configure encoder. In a method for interleaving a turbo encoder in a wireless communication system, the length of groups of an input information word sequence in the turbo encoder is determined based on the number of memories of a configure encoder(602). The bits of the input information word sequence are exchanged for every group according to a rule based on the number of memories(603). In the exchange, the bits of the input information word sequence are transferred according to turbo sign periods based on the number of memories. |
