A sender-initiated bandwidth reservation method for real-time traffic in a synchronous ethernet is provided to reduce the overload for finding out a necessary sending node in a receiver-initiated reservation protocol, such as RSVP(Resource Reservation Protocol), and to speedily and efficiently reserve a bandwidth only with network information. If a sending node transmits a reservation frame to reserve a bandwidth for real-time data(S1), a switch checks the amount of real-time traffic and confirms whether the sum of previously reserved real-time traffic, a bandwidth to transmit a reservation request frame, and the traffic requested by the reservation frame exceeds 70 percent of the total bandwidth(S2). If not, the switch secures the requested bandwidth and delivers the reservation frame to a Tx port to a receiving node(S3). If the reservation frame arrives at the receiving node(S5), the receiving node confirms whether the sum of previously reserved real-time traffic, a bandwidth to transmit a reservation request frame, and the traffic requested by the reservation frame exceeds 70 percent of the total bandwidth(S6). If not, the receiving node transmits a reservation accept response frame to the receiving side(S7,S9). Receiving the reservation accept response frame, the sending node starts real-time data transmission(S14). |
