<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an audio output device that can produce an audio output while avoiding device destruction even if an output volume rises to an extreme, and dispenses with volume control using analog devices. <P>SOLUTION: The audio output device, which applies digital signal processing to a multichannel digital audio signal input thereinto, includes a detection section for detecting a peak value or an effective value of each channel of the digital audio signal. A power calculation section is also provided for calculating power required for an audio output corresponding to the peak value or effective value.
