IMAGE PICKUP APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CORRECTING DISTORTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a size of a distortion correcting memory for reading a pixel value of an object image while retaining an access amount to a memory storing an object image subject to distortion correction and a processing speed of the distortion correction.

SOLUTION: The image pickup apparatus includes: an allocation control unit for sequentially allocating pixel values within a range of a predetermined number of rows in an image to a memory; and a generation unit for generating an image the distortion of which has been corrected one row after another by using the pixel values within the range of the predetermined number of rows to be sequentially allocated to the memory. The predetermined number of rows is each number of rows or more required for generating each row of the image the distortion of which has been corrected. In the whole pixel values within the range of the predetermined number of rows, the pixel values within the range of the predetermined number of rows are the pixel values removing at least part of pixel values unnecessary for generating ungenerated rows of the image the distortion of which has been corrected.
