<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection apparatus and a detection method in which a sufficient detection result can be obtained in such a manner as to improve visibility and to shorten a diagnosis time by directly sampling a little liquid specimen from an organism and a burden on the organism can be reduced by eliminating sanitary problems even in directly touching the organism. <P>SOLUTION: A strip-shaped detection apparatus for detecting a substance to be detected in a liquid specimen comprises a sampling member which directly samples the liquid specimen from an organism, a hold member in which a marker reagent is held, a detection member to which a detection reagent is fixed, an absorption member capable of absorbing the liquid specimen, and a liquid non-permeable support member. The members are arrayed in a length direction of the detection apparatus on the support member in such a manner that the liquid specimen moves through the members.
