<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide setting system and method capable of enhancing the usability by reducing the complicated setting operation by a user. <P>SOLUTION: The setting system comprises: a portable terminal including an interface connecting with an external apparatus so that information can be transmitted and received; and a display device including an interface connecting with the portable terminal so that information can be transmitted and received, a display having the screen size larger than that of the portable terminal, and an input section which allows for input of information by a user. During connection with the display unit via the interface, the portable terminal designates the display unit to set key operation lock or manner mode if the device is set to the key operation lock or manner mode.
