<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent interruption in continuous detection of a user-associated area when luminance of an image used for the detection of the user-associated area drastically changes. <P>SOLUTION: A user detecting apparatus performs color histogram authentication (96) at the start of continuous authentication and continues the color histogram authentication while similarity of a color histogram is equal to or more than a threshold value (Y in 98). When the similarity of the color histogram becomes less than the threshold value (N in 98), the user detecting apparatus determines whether or not a drastic change in luminance has occurred in an image (102), and if a luminance change has occurred, switches the continuous authentication to optical flow authentication (110). While performing the optical flow authentication, the user detecting apparatus also determines whether or not a drastic change in luminance of the image has subsided (114, 116), and if it is determined that the luminance change has subsided (Y in 116), resumes the color histogram authentication. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
