<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique to significantly reduce a data amount of z-stack images without losing as much necessary image information as possible. <P>SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus includes: acquisition means for acquiring image data of multiple layers acquired by imaging a subject while changing a focal position in an optical axis direction; division means for dividing the image data of each layer into a plurality of block areas; determination means for determining whether each block area of each layer is a region of interest or a non region of interest by analyzing image data of each layer; and deletion means for deleting an image information amount in a non region of interest, when the non region of interest is present in block areas of other layers corresponding to projection on a region of interest in one layer in the optical axis direction. When reproducing image data, image data in the non region of interest is restored by using the image data in the corresponding region of interest of the other layers. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
