PURPOSE: A car type dividing and counting device and a method thereof are provided to easily classifying car types by calculating the length of a vehicle with an infrared sensor and calculating the speed of the vehicle with radar. CONSTITUTION: Radar(10) senses a radar signal. An infrared sensor(12) senses an infrared signal. A control unit(14) calculates the speed of a vehicle by using the radar signal. The control unit calculates the length of a vehicle by using the infrared signal and the calculated speed. A communication unit(16) transmits traffic information including counting information and car type information to the outside.
