In a hybrid vehicle provided with an engine and an electric motor (such as a motor generator) that can output running power; a power transmission system for transmitting power to a drive wheel and with manually selectable speed stages; and a shifting indicator apparatus that prompts the driver to change the speed stages, when the engine is in an operating state during a manual shifting mode for manually changing the speed stages, the shifting indicator apparatus prompts the driver to change to a speed stage that permits stopping of the engine. When the current speed stage is changed to the speed stage permitting the stopping of the engine, the engine is stopped and transition to EV travel takes place. By implementing such control, travel with the engine running in the manual shifting mode can be suppressed, whereby improved fuel economy can be achieved. |
