<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that reduces damage to a fixing unit due to an edge of a sheet. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes a transfer unit, a fixing unit 70, a swing drive mechanism, and a control unit. The transfer unit transfers toner to a sheet S, and the fixing unit 70 fixes the toner transferred by the transfer unit to the sheet S. The swing drive mechanism moves the fixing unit 70 in a direction parallel with a plane surface of the sheet S and orthogonal to a conveyance direction of the sheet S and swing the sheet S. The control unit controls drive of the swing drive mechanism, and move the fixing unit 70 when the sheet S has not entered the fixing unit 70, and moves the fixing unit 70 a plurality of times to configure one cycle in the swing movement of the fixing unit 70.
