A testing instrument for the insulation performance of multi-functional cross-linked polyethylene, comprising a housing (1), and a high voltage chamber (2) and a testing circuit installed inside the housing (1). A control panel (3) is provided on the housing (1). An insulating hood (4) is installed on the high voltage chamber (2). A fixing support is provided in the high voltage chamber (2). A cup of insulating oil is installed on the fixing support. A high voltage electrode and a ground electrode are installed opposite each other in the cup of insulating oil, and a temperature-control device is installed below the cup of insulating oil for controlling the temperature of the oil. The testing circuit comprises a high voltage power supply, a voltmeter, a timer, a surge protection device and a digital thermometer. By adjusting the voltage between the two electrodes and the temperature of the oil in the cup of insulating oil to test the XLPE samples, the functions of voltage regulation and display, temperature regulation and display, timing setting and display and surge protection are achieved, and the stability of the testing environment for the insulation of XLPE is ensured, thereby truly and effectively reflecting the insulation performance of polyethylene insulation at different operating temperatures and voltage resistances.
