The device (1) has an upper locking body (4) rotationally arranged at the base body. A projection (10) i.e. stepped passage, is arranged at a base body (2) and connected with a corner fitting such that a rotating movement is prevented for external-intervention of the upper locking body from the fitting by a positive cooperation of the projection with the fitting. The projection is arranged on a side of the locking device, where the side is fixed opposite to a locking projection (24). The projection is connected with the fitting by tilting the base body due to gravitation effect. An independent claim is also included for a method for securing a container on a ship by a locking device.
