Provided are a method and device for a mobile terminal to hand off base stations, which relate to the technical field of communications and solve the problem that common-frequency base stations greatly interfere with a terminal when receiving handoff commands. The method comprises: obtaining specified channel resource information from a channel resource used by a source base station; obtaining information about a relevant base station using specified channel resources except the source base station; sending indication signalling to the relevant base station according to relevant base station information, the indication signalling carrying specified channel resource information and being used for indicating to a relevant base station to stop using the specified channel resource when a terminal hands off to a target base station; sending a handoff request message to the target base station; and sending a handoff command to the mobile terminal through the specified channel resource information. The present invention can be applied to a mobile terminal for handing off base stations.
