A BACKLIGHT UNIT AND A METHOD FOR DRIVING THE SAME

PURPOSE: A backlight unit and a driving method thereof are provided to control wavelength of a light source without entirely increasing intensity of light by controlling a duty ratio of driving current. CONSTITUTION: A wavelength detection unit (200) detects wavelength generated in a light source (100). A wavelength comparison unit (300) compares reference wavelength satisfying a desired color coordinate and detection wavelength detected in the wavelength detection unit. When wavelength of light generated in the light source does not coincide with target wavelength, a wavelength correction unit (400) corrects the wavelength supplied to the light source and generates the light coinciding with the color coordinate.
