PURPOSE: A power shut off system for preventing overcharging of a battery is provided to block power source before influencing to nearby cell modules and to minimize performance degradation of a battery due to overcharging. CONSTITUTION: A power shut off system for preventing overcharging of a battery comprises expansion sensing lines(10) each of which is winded around a block of a battery unit cell(5), and is cut when expansion strength reaches to a predetermined critical expansion value; a high voltage relay(20) for connecting or blocking external power source to the battery unit cells; a safety plug(30); a BMS(battery management system)(40) which simultaneously turns off the high voltage relay and the safety plug, when short circuit is sensed.
