A transmission controller which executes a coordinated shift for shifting a variator in a direction inverse to a gear ratio change direction of an auxiliary transmission mechanism when shifting the auxiliary transmission mechanism, but prohibits the coordinated shift and shifts only the auxiliary transmission mechanism from second gear to first gear when the gear stage of the auxiliary transmission mechanism is in second gear and when there is a request to increase the output of the power source.
