The method involves examining a battery pack (B) welded in a casing in an airtight manner, by application of pressure changes inside the battery pack, where the pressure changes are produced by both alteration of ambient pressure and/or pressure of medium or fluid surrounding the casing and by local mechanical pressure on the casing. Defects such as cavities, in the casing are examined by measurement of surface deformation or gradient of the surface deformation caused by the pressure change. The measurement results are analyzed with respect to local inhomogeneous deformation behavior. An independent claim is also included for a device for non-destructive examination of a welded battery pack.
