Proposed are: a liquid crystalline compound which can exhibit such a switching function that the physical property thereof switches between an ion-conductive state and a non-ion-conductive state depending on the change in temperature; and an electrolyte material. The liquid crystalline compound is composed of a columnar liquid crystalline phase in which an ammonium group and an alkoxyphenyl group are linked to each other, and can undergo the change in structure depending on the change in temperature to thereby exhibit such a switching function that the physical property thereof switches between an ion-conductive state and a non-ion-conductive state.
