To give constant width to rolled glass ribbons, lateral restrictions to the rollers are formed as hollow discs. The discs may be on both ends of the same roller. The rollers and discs may be thermally controlled. Molten glass from a tank 1 is drawn by rollers 3, 4 and passes over bridges 6, 10, 11, conveyer rollers 8, 9, 7, parts of a forming device 12 to 18, conveyer rollers 19, 20 and thence to rollers 21, 22 in an annealing oven 23. Rollers 3, 4 are supported in adjustable bearing blocks 26 by extension 25, 24, the rollers being synchronized by gears 28, 29 and driven from wheels 30, 31. Hollow discs 5, 5<1> are secured to the ends of hollow roller 4 to overlap the ends of the hollow roller 3 to prevent lateral spreading of the molten glass. The interiors of the rollers and discs communicate with pipes 33, 34 through bores 35, so that suitable cooling medium may be passed therethrough. |
