A hub-bearing assembly (10) comprises a rotatable outer annular hub (20) which is made of a material lighter than steel and is provided with a flange (21) for mounting a wheel and a tubular portion (22) with a cylindrical cavity (25); the assembly comprises a bearing (11) with a double row of rolling elements (14, 14b) and a single outer ring (12) seated in the cylindrical cavity (25); a steel sleeve (30) is radially arranged between the outer bearing ring (12) and the central cavity (25) of the annular hub; the sleeve (30) has opposite axial ends with a respective first edge (32) and second edge (36), which protrude in radially outward directions against two respective radial surfaces (26a, 28a) on axially opposite sides of the annular hub (20), so that the hub (20) is axially locked between the two edges (32, 36).
