[Also in Group XXV] Pivotal means for a relay armature comprises two coaxial bearings 103 having tapered surfaces engaging pins 102 attached to the armature 16, and mounted on plates 104a, 104b, at least one of which is resilient to bias the bearings axially. In the relay construction shown, which is similar to that of Figs. 7 and 8 of Specification 809,441, the plate 104a is comparatively unyielding but the plate 104b has two slots 110 to provide three limbs of which the centre limb 112 carries the bearing 103 and the outer limbs 111 are secured to the frame by screws 105 passing through outsize holes in the limbs to allow of proper centring of the armature during assembly. The bearing 103 extend so as to surround the ends of the cylindrical parts of the pin so as to retain them during rough treatment, and the centre of the bearing may be drilled so that the point of the pin protrudes into the hole (Fig. 5, not shown). The Specification refers also to tapered depressions in the armature itself, to ball or roller bearings interposed between the tapering surfaces (in which case one surface need not be tapered), to frusto-conical and part hemispherical tapered surfaces, and to bearings carried by circular diaphragms with circumferential ripples or spiral slots. Instead of the limb 112 being bowed outwardly, as shown, it may be initially lowered inwardly so as to be coplanar with limbs 111 after assembly.
