Class 20(3) [Also in Group XXV] A window having a light 6 reversible on pivots 14, 15 which lie outside the plane of the light 6 and window frame has in the sill 5, Fig. 2, a double rebate 16, 17 facing towards the outside of the windows and in the adjoining lower halves of the frame sides 2, 3, Fig. 4 (right hand side), double rebates 18, 19 inwardly of the frame in opposite directions respectively to the double rebates 25, 26 of the head 4, Fig. 2 and the double rebates 23, 24 of the adjoining upper halves of the frame sides 2, 3 Fig. 2, (left hand side) and the light 6 has corresponding single or double rebates so as, when closed to fit the double rebates of the frame, the rebates of the frame nearer the outer face of the window, viz 16, 18, 25, or the mating portion of the light e.g. 27 each having a groove 30 to form a moisture check and the innermost rebates, viz. 17, 19, 26 or the mating portion of the frame e.g. 29 each having an inserted draught-excluding strip 34 e.g. of nylon cord, and the hinges 14, 15 have their pivot axes on the frame close to the ends of the lower halves 35 B, Fig. 3 of the frame sides and with these ends having a rule joint to fit a complementary rule joint on the upper halves 35A of the frame sides drainage holes 31 in the sill 5 connect with the groove 30 in the sill. A further moisture check groove 32 may be provided in the rebate 22 of the bottom light rail 10, and plough grooves 33 may be provided in the head 4 and joints 2 and 3 to provide a break against air and water pressure. One of the hinges, e.g. 15, Fig. 3 has spring-loaded leveroperated latch 48 co-operating with one or more slots 49 to secure the light in adjusted positions. Friction in the hinges is adjustable by means of a spring washer 42, Fig. 4, compressed by a screw 43. Espagnolette bolts 52 Fig. 2 are fitted in the bottom rail 10 of the light and operated by a central handle 53 to bring them into or out of engagement with cam slots 54 in the sill 5. Alternatively, a central bottom catch may be provided to hold the light completely shut or slightly open, for spring loaded ball catches may be fitted. |
