An impeller 1200 for a catheter pump has a blade 1203 coupled to a hub 1201, the blade movable between a collapsed, stored position compressed against the hub 1201 and an extended position extending away from the hub 1201 and the blade 1203 having a shape or profile when in the extended position which is different when the impeller rotates than when the impeller is at rest due to deformation of the blade during operation causing elongation, or flattening, or an extended operation height of the blade 1203 or a change to a radius of curvature R of a curved surface of the blade. A sheath or external sleeve 1275 urged against a ramped or chamfered surface 1215 of the trailing edge of the blade 1203 may compress the blade 1203 in the collapsed, stored position. The pump may be a percutaneous rotary heart pump providing elevated flow rates with reduced risk of hemolysis and thrombosis. |
