PURPOSE: An apparatus for acquiring a high dynamic range image and a method thereof are provided to set an exposure range according to the preference of a user, by touching a properly exposed area and an improperly exposed area in a subject image. CONSTITUTION: A touch sensing unit(150) senses a properly exposed area and an improperly exposed area of a subject image displayed in a display unit(140). A control unit(160) outputs a first control signal to an image sensor(120) so that the image sensor photographs a first image with exposure time for the sensed properly exposed area and photographs a second image with exposure time for the sensed improperly exposed area. The control unit outputs a second control signal to an image signal processor(130) so that the image signal processor synthesizes the first and second images.
